I searched for a homemade lotion recipe for several years with no success. Finally, I started playing around with different recipes and combined a few to come up with this one that I love. It’s super easy to personalize – just add the essential oils you love.
Please excuse my lack of great photographs. I was dealing with a potty training four year old who was throwing a fit because he didn’t want to wear underwear. Yes, I know four years olds should already be potty trained. But we’ve had a crazy couple of years, so we’re still working on it! Just keepin’ it real folks.
Just in case you don’t believe me. This is what I was dealing with while trying to make this lotion. Poor little guy just isn’t a fan of underwear I guess…
- 1/4 cup bee's wax pastilles *(1)
- 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1/8 cup vitamin E oil *(2)
- 1 cup rose water or distilled water *(3)
- 15 drops frankincense essential oil
- 15 drops lavender essential oil
- 15 drops jasmine (or geranium) essential oil
- 15 drops patchouli essential oil
- Put the bees wax in a double boiler or just use a glass bowl over a pan like I did. Turn the heat on and let the bees wax melt.
- Once the bee's wax is melted add the coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, and vitamin E oil, and let it all melt. It should look like this when it's done.
- Pour the oil mixture into a food processor.
- Start the food processor, and let it run for 30 seconds or so.
- Pour the rose water or distilled water in. You will notice it turn a more opaque, creamy color almost immediately.
- Leave the food processor on and add all the essential oils. The ones listed are the ones I used this time, but you can play around with it and use the ones you prefer.
- You may need to scrape down the sides a couple of times. This is what it should look like when it's done.
- Pour the lotion into glass jars. I should have used pretty jars, but this was the best I could do today...remember the four year old underwear protest...
*(1) Here's the bee's wax I used for this recipe.
*(2) This is the vitamin E oil I used.
*(3) If I'm making this for someone who loves the scent of rose I use rose water. But I'm not a huge fan of rose, so I usually just use distilled water.
